What is a Subluxation?

What if you are living a life that is impacted by a subluxation? Nagging aching joints, headaches, blurred vision, allergies, constant sickness, neck pain, back pain, anxiety. These could all be linked to the misalignment of the bones in your spine. You are living a sub-par life with little, or big annoyances, when you could be free of them, living and functioning at an optimal level.

Human Spine

Your spine consists of 24 vertebrae which have been designed to stack on top of each other in perfect alignment running along the center of your back, protecting the spinal cord that lays within each vertebra.

Your central nervous system consists of your brain and spinal cord. Spinal nerves branch off of the spinal cord and control every single cell, tissue and organ in your entire body. Imagine that the brain is like the circuit box in your house and the spinal cord and nerves are like the electrical lines leading to the outlets (organs, cells, tissue). In order for your body to regulate and heal properly, messages must be able to flow freely from the brain to the body and from the body to the brain via your nerves. In the same way, the outlets in your house work by the electricity flowing from the circuit box, through the wires to the outlets.

A Subluxation

A subluxation is the misalignment of one or more vertebrae and occurs when a spinal bone (vertebrae) becomes misaligned, causing “pinching” or irritation of a spinal nerve. This misalignment can be the cause of communication getting cut from the brain to the body and vice versa. Just like in our house, if there is a break in those wires along the route to the outlet, the outlet no longer works. There is nothing wrong with the breaker box or the outlet but there is an interference with the  electrical lines connecting the two. This creates a lack of communication between the electrical signal from the source to the outlet. A lack of communication between the nervous system and the body causes an interference, which causes a body malfunction resulting in the dis-ease within a person, we know this as symptoms (headaches, neck pain, anxiety, etc.).

subluxated vs. normal spine

When a subluxation is present, your body is unable to self-regulate and self-heal as it was designed to.

A subluxation can be present for years without producing any signs or symptoms, or it can manifest as a multitude of symptoms no matter what your age. Unfortunately, it’s estimated only 8-14% of all nerves can actually sense pain. This means that you may have a subluxation present and not know it. Some refer to the subluxation as “the silent killer” for this very reason.

How Chiropractic Helps

This is where a chiropractor comes in. At Keystone Specific Chiropractic Center, the doctors use state of the art technology to assess each client’s nervous system function and take digital x-rays. These tools allow the doctors to accurately locate subluxations that are creating interference and hindering the client’s ability to heal. Once the subluxations are found, the chiropractors begin adjusting the spine to realign the bones, relieving the pressure from the spine. Then the body does the rest! Our bodies are made to heal when there is proper communication between the brain, spinal cord, and the rest of the  body.
