But my child has no pain?

“You take your child to a chiropractor?  Why would you do that?”

If you are a parent who takes your child to a chiropractor, then you may already know the answer to this question.  If you don’t take your child to a chiropractor you may be simply thinking, “why on earth would a child ever need a chiropractor?”

Children and Chiropractic

Chiropractors have been caring for children for years!  In fact, pediatric chiropractic is a growing niche within the profession.  There are pediatric chiropractic organizations throughout the world and the reason is, chiropractic is not just for adults!  In fact, the main reason you probably believe chiropractic is only for adults is that you think chiropractic is simply for pain.  The good news is we are going to clear that up.

Currently there are hundreds of case studies on pediatric chiropractic cases that show improvements in asthma, allergies, bedwetting, digestive issues including: reflux and constipation, ADHD, sensory processing disorders, autism spectrum disorders, seizures, and infants with colic and sleeping issues.

So the real question is, why does chiropractic helps adults in pain, and children with various other conditions?

How Chiropractic Helps Children

Most people believe that because chiropractors adjust and work on the spine, they only help people with spinal issues, and pain related to the spine.  If you are slightly more advanced in your understanding of chiropractic you might know that chiropractors work with conditions related to nerves or nerve related syndromes like radiculopathy, sciatica, carpal tunnel, numbness and tingling, and traveling pain.

Here’s the thing, nerves don’t just control pain and sensation.  In fact pain and sensation are just a small window into what nerves do.

Nerves control function!  They control the function of all the processes in your body and a child’s body.  Your lungs are controlled by nerves, your heart is controlled by nerves, you digestive system is controlled by nerves, your immune systems is controlled by nerves!  Everything is controlled by nerves and nerves originate from the brain and spinal cord!

The brain and spinal cord are encased in bone.  Throughout life these bones can shift out of proper position, especially during developmental years.  When these bone move out of position and stop moving properly, they begin to cause dysfunction in the nervous system, and it does not matter what age you are.

Has your child ever taken a fall?  Worn a backpack that was too heavy?  Had a sports related injury?  had a difficult birth process or C-section birth?  These can all be signs of early trauma leading to reasons to have your child checked by a chiropractor.  And here is the thing, in our office we call it checking, not simply adjusting cause you are there.

Having Your Child Seen at KSCC

At Keystone Specific Chiropractic Center we use sensitive and specific tools to assess your nerve system.  These tools help us determine when your body is not performing at it’s highest level.  In fact, upper cervical specific chiropractic works on the top 2 bones of the spine because the centers in the upper neck control the nerves! (remember what nerves do?)

The body is complicated but what is strives for is simple, health and well-being.  You were born to be healthy and so were our children.  Curious if we can help your child?  We never charge to simply have a conversation.
